LA PAZ, July 15 (Reuters) - Popular Bolivian soccer club
The Strongest Thursday announced it had laid-off its whole team
after players staged a week-long strike to demand three months
worth of back wages.
In announcing the decision, The Strongest's President Jorge
Sfeir told reporters players had shown 'lack of respect' when
they did not attend a conciliatory meeting.
Vidal Gonzalez, a representative for the more than 20
players fired, said the only solution to the conflict was for
them to quickly get their salaries 'cash in hand.'
Former Argentine soccer star Mario Kempes was hired last
month as a coach in a bid to bail out The Strongest, which
ended next to last in the local Apertura tournament disputed in
the first half of the year.
Clausura

will be played in two groups of six, all teams playing the other teams
in the same group as well as two 'derby' matches against teams in the
other group; after those 12 rounds, the top-3 of each play off in the
Hexagonal (10 rounds) to crown the Clausura champions.
